Dr. Patel’s current research focuses on the development of a microstructure based numerical model for colon tissue, with the aim of understanding development of colonic diverticulosis and subsequently envisioning adequate treatment. Prior to this, he completed his education in France, until he obtained his “Diplôme d’Ingénieur” from l’Ecole Nationale Supérieur d’Arts et Métiers ParisTech. He later joined the University of California, Berkeley in 2011 where he earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2013), M.S. In Mathematics (2014), and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (2015). His graduate research work revolved around the development of numerical methods to design novel particle composites for electromagnetic applications. His research interests include mathematical formulation and application of numerical analysis techniques to various physical phenomena, especially for the study of mechanical, thermal and electrodynamic behavior.
